RECYCLING INFORMATION

Drop off site:

Township hall, 2054 M-40, Allegan. Open all hours.

Place magazines and paper grocery bags in one compartment. Clear glass, empty aerosol cans, kitchen metals and #1 and #2 plastic bottles and jugs can be commingled in the other compartment. RINSE FOOD CONTAINERS.

 

NOTE: Household batteries, sealed in a zip lock bag, can now be deposited in the commingled containers compartment at drop-off sites. NO VEHICLE BATTERIES. We can no longer accept colored glass. Styrofoam is not collected at drop-off sites but CLEAN FOAM can be taken to the monitored depot.

Magazines, phonebooks, flattened cardboard and boxboard (plastic liners removed), grocery bags, newspapers, office paper, and junk mail can be commingled in this bin.

Monitored Depot
Household batteries, Styrofoam, appliances, and tires can be taken to the monitored depot site: Allied Waste, 3310 M-40, Hamilton, on the first and third Saturdays of each month, from 9 a.m. to Noon You must present your Resource Recovery card.

USED MOTOR OIL                        
Don't dump it!   Recycle it!

IMPORTANT: Don't mix other wastes with used oil. Such mixtures can create hazards and make recycling more difficult.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION PROGRAM

Many pesticides, cleaning products and paints contain toxic chemicals that should not be disposed of in your household trash.  If you would like to dispose of them, make an appointment to do so at the site listed below:

Allegan County Health Department, 3255 122nd Avenue, Suite 200, Allegan. Appointments are available Tuesdays and Thursdays during regular business hours.  YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE A TIME, (269) 673-5415 

THE FOLLOWING SUBSTANCES ARE ACCEPTED: Pesticides, weed killers, cleaners, polishes, aerosols, wood preservatives, asphalt and roofing tar, oil based paint products (thinners, solvents, varnish), photographic chemicals, mercury thermometers, fluorescent lamps and home repair products (glue and cement).  NO smoke detectors, explosives or latex paints.  Residential materials only, commercial waste will not be accepted.
