Board Members

Harry Smith - Trustee

Harry has lived in the township for over thirty years. His favorite part of living in Valley Township is the beautiful landscapes and forests. Harry has served on the township board off and on for the past twenty-five years. The reason he decided to first get involved in the township was that he felt that the southern part of the township was not being represented. Harry has held many different positions in the area of Law Enforcement over the years, and is also retired from his own stamping shop business. He has been married to his wife June for thirty-nine years. They have three children; Nancy, John, and Kathy. They have seven grandchildren, ranging in ages from twenty-two to thirty-fives years old. They also have eight great-grandchildren, ranging in ages from one to fifteen years old. When he is not spending time with his family, he enjoys bowling. He is also involved with the VFW and American Legion.

Robert Dobbins - Trustee

Phone: 269-673-8024           Email: b-mdobbins@btc-bci.com

Bob and his wife Melodie first purchased land in Valley Township in 1968.  They started living in the township in 1972 with their two sons, Bob Jr. and Rick.  They chose Valley Township because they wanted to raise their children in a place that offered peace and serenity, and many outdoor opportunities.  Bob has been married to Melodie for forty years.  They have two sons, and 7 grandchildren that range in age from eight to twenty-five.  Bob retired from the carpenter trade in 1996.  They appreciate all of the recreational activities and wildlife the township surroundings offer, but most of all, the solitude.  When Bob has free time he enjoys hunting, fishing, walking in the woods, working in his woodshop, and tinkering with his tractor and dozer.  Bob first became interested in township politics about six years ago, because he did not like the path the township was taking.  After attending several meetings, he realized that citizen input, both positive and negative, is an essential part of representative government at all levels.  He would like to encourage all township residents, young and not so young to attend meetings whenever possible, and call the township when you have concerns or ideas that may be helpful in improving the township.

Denise Medemar - Treasurer

Denise has lived in Valley Township for the past sixteen years. Thirteen years ago, she decided she wanted to get involved in her community and try to make Valley Township a better place to live and has been doing so since then. Her favorite thing about living in Valley Township is that it is conveniently located near Holland, Kalamazoo, and Grand Rapids but is still a country setting. Denise has been married to her husband Ronald for twenty-six years; they have four children and two grandchildren together. She has worked for the Allegan County Drain Commission for the past fifteen years. In her spare time, she enjoys sewing, knitting, and crocheting.

William F. Browne - Supervisor

Cell Phone# - (269)806-4315                Email: wfbrowne@yahoo.com

Bill was elected as the Township Supervisor in November of 2004.  He was asked to run for the position by a group of township residents who felt he had the credentials and experience to be a successful Supervisor. One of his goals since taking the position has been to take township government to the people by making sure they have the information needed to voice their opinions and give input on decisions knowledgeably. He would also like to see more residents become involved in the township. Bill has lived in the township for five years with his wife Carol.  They have been married for forty-five years. They have one daughter named Susan, who lives in Battle Creek, Michigan with her husband Tim and children, Griffin and Alexandria. Bill’s favorite thing about living in the township is the wide variety of outdoor activities it offers, as well as the friendship and support of their neighbors in the township. Besides being the Township Supervisor, Bill also teaches classes in Psychology at Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Grand Valley State University. Before moving to the township he was a faculty member and administrator at Indiana University and at the University of Maine. Bill is also a member of the Fraternal Order of Elks, the National Rifle Association, SASS, NCOWS, and The North American Hunting Club. When he does have some spare time, he enjoys working in his yard, hunting, fishing, gunsmithing, woodworking, camping, and spending time with his grandchildren. During the summer months, he likes to spend time with his wife on their sailboat, “Freudian Sloop”.
